Children's Help Net is actively seeking funding for these projects:
1. Heating System for the Placement and
Rehabilitation Center for Young Children The orphanage is heated by the old antiquated and highly inefficient
soviet system of steam heat radiating out from the center of Chisinau.
We would like to work with the government and other NGOs like we did
for the heating system at the Municipal Orphanage during 2004-2005. This
is a basic life necessity that will greatly
improve
the
health and
lives
of these children. How you can help: We
would like to raise $70,000 to contribute to a new heating
system. 2. Modernize the Group Living Quarters at the Municipal Orphanage
and the Placement and Rehabilitation Center for Young Children The children live in three rooms called a "Group" A group consists
of a playroom/eating area with a small kitchen area, a bedroom and a bathroom.
Renovation of a group involves (1) in the bathroom: replacing sinks, bathtubs
and toilets, tiling the floor and walls and installing a hot water heater,
(2) in the kitchen: replacing the cabinets and sink, (3) in all three
rooms: replacing the radiators, sewer pipes, painting the walls and ceiling
and replacing the floors. Each orphanage has at least three Groups that
need to be renovated.
The bathrooms are usually the area most in need of renovation. The center photograph shows a pot used to heat water on a stove for bathing. How you can help: The cost of renovating a Group is $15,000. 3. Replacing the Sewer Pipes at the Municipal Orphanage The sewer pipes under the buildings at the Municipal Orphanage are rotting away and are being held together by concrete patches and duct tape. This is potentially a dangerous health hazard that must be remedied.
How you can help: The cost of replacing the sewer pipes is $50,000.
4. Renovation of the medical treatment area at the Municipal Orphanage.
How you can help: The cost of modernizing this space is $150,000.
5. Construction of an indoor gymnasium at the Municipal Orphanage. There is currently no indoor play area at this orphanage. How you can help: The cost of a gymnasium with play equipment is $150,000.
6. Purchase of Outdoor Playground Equipment for the Municipal Orphanage. The existing equipment is very old and in disrepair. How you can help: The cost of replacing the playground equipment and preparing the play area is $80,000.
