PROJECTS
& PROGRAMS
ROMANIA Foster Care and Family Subsidy Programs During 2000 the Romanian government received funding from the World Bank to support foster care and family subsidy programs. The support provided by CHNF for these initiatives was no longer required. We will resume our participation in these programs if required in the future. Children
with Special Needs During 2001 Children's Help Net created a fund for children with special medical needs. Iulian Leonte lost his right arm just above the elbow after being electrocuted while playing near a high voltage transformer when he was 9 years old. Iulian, now 13, is the first recipient to benefit from this fund. Children's Help Net together with the Andrea Foundation arranged for Iulian to receive a prosthetic arm and related medical services in February 2002. Iulian will require two replacement prosthetic arms as he grows older. How you can help: Make a donation to help us continue to help Iulian as well as to expand this program. Donation of Clinical Diagnostic Reagents by Randox Laboratories Ltd. Children's Help Net recently helped initiate and coordinate the donation of clinical diagnostic reagents for blood testing by Randox Laboratories Ltd., a UK company, in cooperation with the Andrea Foundation and the Ministry of Health. Recipient institutions are identified based on need by the Ministry of Health and the Andrea Foundation. This is an on-going program. Donation of Dialysis Machines by The Rogosin Institute Children's Help Net and the Andrea Foundation coordinated the donation of 35 Baxter dialysis machines by The Rogosin Institute to the Ministry of Heath in Romania. CHNF payed for the shipping. The machines were shipped in April 2003. SofMedica, the Baxter distributor for Romania, cleared the donation through customs, delivered the machines to the recipent institutions identified by the Ministry of Health and set them up. Hospitals in Ramnicu, Valcea, Slatina, Braila, Resita and Turnu Severin are now treating patients with these machines. These machines have permiited the recipient institutions to reduce the number of shifts required to treat their patients and optimization of the dialysis perscription for each patient.
