Problem Solving for Better Health®

Learning the PSBH® process in small groups.
Project: Teaching fine motor skills to handicapped children.
Project: Teaching dental hygiene to other children using puppets.

Problem Solving for Better Health® (PSBH®) is a process that challenges individuals to rethink their problems and their own role in solving them. This approach invites active participation and commitment and places the responsibility for change squarely upon the individual.

During a 2.5 day workshop participants are taught the PSBH® process. Each participant identifies a solvable problem and designs a business plan for a project to solve it. DHF provides seed money for the project and guidance through local and regional coordinators. Participants report back to DHF at a half-day follow-up workshop.

Children's Help Net helped to establish the PSBH® program in Romania. The first workshop took place in February 1999 in Bucharest, where the participants were asked to take immediate action and use local available resources to begin solving their problems. Today PSBH® is a nationwide program in Romania.

Dr. Levine volunteers as a PSBH® workshop facilitator for DHF in Romania and Bulgaria.

Read about PSBH® and Children's Help Net in Romania and Bulgaria in Jan-Feb 2000, Oct-Dec 2001, Oct-Dec 2002 and Sept 2004 issues of Connections, a publication of the Dreyfus Health Foundation.

PSBH® is a collaborative program with the Andrea Foundation and the Dreyfus Health Foundation.
